South Africans have been told that their life is in their own hands as its government eases COVID-19 restrictions.

In a statement issued by the South African Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture, the country announced the reopening of cinemas and theatres, subject to a limitation of 50 persons or less.

South Africa has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases on the continent.

According to data from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), South Africa has recorded 144,264 cases with 2,529 deaths.
