The World Health Organisation has suspended the testing of hydroxychloroquine as a possible treatment for Coronavirus
According to the World Health Body, the testing has been halted due to concerns about the safety and health implications of the drug.
The move comes after a recent medical study suggested the drug could increase the risk of patients dying from Covid-19.
US President Donald Trump has promoted the anti-malarial drug, despite warnings from public health officials that it could cause heart problems in Covid-19 patients.
Trump also said he was taking the drug himself to ward off the virus.
Speaking at the White House, early in May, he told reporters he started taking the malaria and lupus medication recently.
“I’m taking it for about a week and a half now and I’m still here, I’m still here,” he said
“You’d be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the frontline workers before you catch it, the frontline workers, many, many are taking it. I happen to be taking it,” he added.
