Robyn Crawford, Whitney Houston’s long-time best friend, has disclosed that the two had an amorous relationship from when they were teens, ABC News can report.

Robyn Crawford, now 58 years, stated that her relationship with the multiple award-winning singer began when she was 19 years and Whitney at the time was 17 years.

The 58-year-old stated “I’d come to the point where I felt the need to stand up for our friendship. And I felt an urgency to stand up and share the woman behind the incredible talent…

“I wanted to lift her legacy, give her respect and share the story of who she was before the fame, and in that, to embrace our friendship” Robyn Crawford stressed.

“We wanted to be together, and that meant just us,” she said disclosing that the two of them never considered it ‘a relationship’ adding “We never talked about labels, like lesbian or gay. We just lived our lives and I hoped it could go on that way forever.”

“Whitney knows I loved her and I know she loved me. We really meant everything to each other. We vowed to stand by each other” she wrote.

Whitney, who died in 2012 at the age of 48, according to Robyn Crawford, ended their relationship in 1982, before officially signing with Clive Davis.

Pressure from Whitney Houston’s mother about the nature of their relationship and the late super star’s fear of public ridicule that may welcome the news pushed her to end it, her best friend divulged.

“Whitney told me her mother said it wasn’t natural for two women to be that close, but we were that close” the fitness trainer who is married to Lisa Hintlemann, with whom she has two adopted children said adding that “She said if people find out about us, they would use this against us and back in the ’80s that’s how it felt.”

Robyn Crawford’s disclosure is contained in her memoir, A Song For You: My Life with Whitney Houston.

Whitney Houston, despite maintaining close ties with Robyn Crawford, married musician Bobby Brown, with whom they had a daughter.

Whitney Houston is credited for some of the greatest songs of all time like ‘I will always love you’, ‘I look to you’ and ‘My love is your love’.
