Love knows no boundaries, it is said, and in the past couple of days, the Ghanaian media landscape has been dominated by an instance of that statement.
This week, news of the marriage between Deputy National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Chief Binney Nixon and member of the governing New Patriotic Party and Deputy Head at Microfinance and Small Loans Centre, Afia Akoto, has dominated the discourse.
The development has been received with mixed reactions from both NPP and NDC members.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye DC, claims that the NDC man fell in love with the NPP lady because of her good behaviour and attitude.
The reaction, from some NDC members, however, has been one of displeasure. For Stephen Atubiga, a one-time presidential hopeful of the NDC, Chief Binney holds a sensitive position in the NDC, hence, he should either divorce the wife or step down as deputy National Organiser of the party.
But dismissing the comments and views expressed, Chief Binney stated that the focus should be who she is and not the political party she belongs to or her affiliations.
“Turn your lights down low And pull your window curtains; Oh, let Jah moon come shining in – Into our life again, what matters most is who she is not where she belongs! Love you Afia Akoto”
The marriage was witnessed by Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful and members from the two main political parties, NDC and NPP.
