The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has admonished all its communicators to refrain from engaging in any dirty political discourse ahead of the 2020 general elections.
According to a circular released by the 2020 National Campaign Team of the party, all party communicators, faithfuls and any other persons who choose to defend the party on any platform, must do so based on the party’s records and achievement in government.
The circular emphasized that under no circumstance should the party members attack and denigrate any political opponent based on the person’s ethnicity, religion or gender.
The party is of the firm belief that campaigning on issues and track record will offer the party brighter chances than politics of insult, which they believe the opponent can do better than them.
“We therefore urge all who speak for, or purport to speak for the party to refrain from attacking political opponents. We specifically ask that no reference should ever be made to opponents’ ethnicity, religion or gender,” portions of the circular signed by the Zongo Minister, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid noted.
The party added that “we shall campaign on our record and win. Indeed, there is enough to speak about with regard to our record. We cannot beat our opponents in the politics of calumny. Let us therefore refrain.”
