The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has cancelled two papers of the ongoing 2021 WASSCE due to evidence of mass leakages of questions.
The affected papers are Business Management 1 & 2 and Physics 1 & 2. These papers were scheduled to be administered today, Wednesday, 15th September 2021.
Checks made by ABC News indicate that the leaked questions, which now comes in a handwritten format, are similar to the original questions on the WAEC exam papers which the students would have written today.
The papers are alleged to have been leaked around midnight on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by WAEC sighted by ABC News, the council noted that “the Office has rescheduled the Physics 2 & 1 and Business Management 2 & 1 Papers originally scheduled for today, Wednesday, 15th September, 2021. A new date for the rescheduled papers will be communicated in due course. However, Auto Mechanics 2 & 1 will be administered today, 15th September, 2021 at 14:00 hours as scheduled.”
The council further indicated that strict internal controls and compliance by all staff to the Security Regulations of the Council and increased inspection and monitoring at the various centres have been implemented as part of steps to safeguard the integrity of the examination.
Critics say it is becoming too rampant in the past few years, fearing for the future of students the current educational system is churning out.
