The UEFA Champion League draw for the 2019/ 2020 season took place in Monaco on Thursday night assembling competing clubs and players and legends of the game in European football.
The night did not go away without some major talking points including the controversy surrounding Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk receiving the Men’s Player of Year Award beating Ronaldo and Messi to the prize.
One outstanding talking point on the lips of everyone, perhaps one that unifies football fans, was the indirect request for dinner made by Ronaldo to his closest rival in the sport, Lionel Messi.
The two sat side-by-side at the event, with Ronaldo sitting in between Messi and Van Dijk.
Talking about the experience of playing football in Spain and the fierce rivalry between the two of them, the Juventus attacker retorted, “we shared the stage, me and him, for 15 years. I don’t know if it ever happened. The same two guys, on the same stage all the time. It is not easy”
“We have a good relationship. We have not had dinner together yet but I hope in the future. I miss to play in Spain. We have had that battle in the last 15 years. He push me and I push him as well so it is good to be part of history” the former Real Madrid legend said at the venue, ABC News Ghana can report.
This drew a broad smile from Messi.
Watch an excerpt of the encounter below:
Ronaldo grateful for the rivalry that they had with Messi over the last years as it has helped them reach greater heights. Cristiano hopes that they will have a dinner together someday. Cutest thing you will watch today.🤩 #UCLdraw
