Renowned Pan Africanist and Kenyan Law Professor, P. L. O Lumumba has denied the news item claiming that he has criticized the Forbes African of the Year Award conferred on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The award which is in its fourth year, recognizes Africans that have made an impact on the continent and the world stage. The latest issue of the magazine said President Akufo-Addo has “repositioned the country in the global marketplace as one reliant on its own resources and strengths.”
Following this news, some media outlets have reported that Professor Lumumba in an interview with Accra-based TV Africa has suggested that President Akufo-Addo does not deserve the award.
But responding to the said claims in a video sighted by ABC News, the Kenyan Law Professor totally denied the said publication indicating that he has not commented on the award with any media house in Ghana.
He therefore urged Ghanaians to disregard what he describes as a malicious creation by some unscrupulous persons for their self-centered benefits.
“That is completely untrue. I have not addressed any media in Ghana. What I did was to address an audience at a function which was organized by ADDI. I think somebody who is very malicious is creating stories and attributing them to me. That is very sad and unfortunate. I have not made any comment on that and I intend not to comment on that,” Professor Lumumba said.
He continued that, “It will be discourteous on me to arrive here and say things that are untoward against the Head of State of the Republic of Ghana.”
