Armed military men on Monday, September, 28, 2021 traded words with members of the Minority who are on a nationwide tour of some abandoned health facilities in the country.
The NDC members on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health began the assessment tour to apprise themselves with the status of work on the projects which have stalled since the NDC left power in 2017.
The MPs led by Ranking Member of the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh have been left in shock at the deteriorating conditions of the health facilities despite millions of dollars being sunk into them.
The tour which has already taken the team to the Fomena, Kumawu, Abetifi and Somanya abandoned facilities had as part of its itinerary a visit to the Afari military hospital.
The 500-bed facility located in the heart of the Ashanti region was expected to serve the northern part of the country and ease the burden of patients who sometimes trek long journeys to the south in search of healthcare.
Committee members were therefore taken aback when an armed military detail brandishing their guns attempted to prevent them from touring the Afari project.
Amid claims, they needed clearance from their superiors at the Military High Command, the officers in an aggressive manner swore never to allow the members access to the abandoned facility.
But the Minority MPs on the Committee called the bluff of the officers a situation which nearly degenerated.
Calm was eventually restored and the NDC MPs embarked on the tour which revealed over 100 gas cylinders, several medical equipment among others being left at the mercy of the weather.
Here’s the video of the confrontation between the military officers and the MPs.
