Tokyo 2020 Olympics: Joseph Paul Amoah misses out on 200m final after finishing 4th in semis

Ghanaian sprinter, Joseph Paul Amoah has failed to progress to the finals of the men’s 200m event in the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Amoah finished 4th in the semi-finals with a time of 20.27s, a season’s best time for the 24-year-old.

He competed with USA’s Erriyon Knighton, Rasheed Dwyer of Jamaica, and fellow African, Divine Oduduru from Nigeria for a place in the finals.

Earlier, Amoah qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 200m after finishing 3rd in heat 7 in a time of 20.35 seconds of the half-lap event.

He secured automatic qualification alongside Noah Lyles of United States and Eswatini’s Sibusiso Matsenjwa who both finished 1st and 2nd respectively.

Amoah will have another chance to win a medal for Ghana in the men’s 4×100 race, which is slated for August 5, 2021.
