Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Baantima Samba has directed all party folks in the region to “suspend all activities related to the conduct of presidential primaries until the green light is given for people to do so”.
A press statement signed by Chairman Samba said “all media engagement related to the above should cease forthwith”.
“Failure to adhere to the above will attract disciplinary measures as the regional executive committee is not ready to allow a chaotic front of the party in the region”, the statement added.
Chairman Samba said “this ugly phenomenon, if not nibbed in the bud has the tendency of disturbing party peace and cohesion and drawing back on the performance of the government of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”.
Two NPP groups in the Northern Region over the past week has held various press conference against and in support of comments by the Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu that it will be unwise for the NPP to present another Akan Presidential Candidate to Succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Whereas the Concern Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station Executives of NPP in the Northern region described the comments as “most logical argument” during their presser to show support for Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Concerned Northern Grassroot earlier called for the resignation of Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for his comments.
The NPP regional Chairman also urged the media to seek clarification on party issues from official party structures and not to “countenance mushroom” groups whose sole aim is to destabilize the front of the NPP in the region.
The statement also admonished that “as the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan approaches, it is the hope of Chairman Samba that Muslims in the region will commit both the leadership of the party and the government of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo into the hands of Allah for the peace of mind so needed to steer the affairs of the party and government to the desired end”.
