Speaker orders Ursula to appear before Parliament in 48 hours

Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye has ordered Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful to appear before the House by Friday and respond to concerns surrounding the KelniGVG contract.

On Wednesday, the Minister was supposed to address questions on the contract, but however failed to honor the invitation. The Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu told the House that, “I have been trying to locate the Minister. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get in touch with her”.

“I don’t want to impugn the wrong motive to say it is deliberate and the minister is avoiding to answer these questions. We have a responsibility as a house to get ministers to be accountable”, he said.

“Mr. Speaker, this is the third time…Mr. Speaker, I hope you give the right directive so that the Minster will come and answer these questions necessarily without further delay,” he added

Speaker Prof. Mike Ocquaye indicated that the Communication Minister sought permission to be absent on August 3. He however, directed her to avail herself on Friday, August 7.

“To cut a long story short, I direct that the Minister must answer all the relevant questions and make herself available on Friday,” he said.
