Shatta Wale, others to appear in court today; could be jailed for 3 years when convicted – Lawyer says

Embattled Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known in the showbiz industry as Shatta Wale is set to appear in court today, Thursday, October 21, 2021 over the alleged fake gun shot incident.

The leader of the Shatta Movement will appear in court today with two others; Eric Venator and Kojo Owusu Koranteng who are part of his management team for alleged involvement in the incident the police say caused fear and panic in the country.

According to reports, they face charges of publication of false news and causing fear and panic by their alleged acts.

The musician has already spent two nights in police custody after his arrest on Tuesday after the police announced that they were looking for him over his involvement in the spread of false information that he had been shot at East Legon in Accra.

Meanwhile a private legal practitioner, Yaw Oppong, commenting on the impact of the incident said the artiste can be could for a maximum of three years if found guilty of the charges levelled against him.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi TV’s Point of View Program which was monitored by ABC News, the lawyer explained that there is also the possibility of caution or fine based on the discretion of the judge. .

He further indicated that the charges of publication of false news and causing fear and panic brought against Shatta Wale and two of his associates is a misdemeanour which attracts more lenient sanctions as compared to a felony.
