Sekondi High Court issues bench warrant for the arrest of Jomoro MP

The commercial division of Sekondi High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the NDC Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.

Madam Affo-Toffey, whose counsel is Lawyer Godwim Edudzie Tamakloe is standing trial over allegations of dual citizenship after a lawsuit was filed by a resident of Nuba-Mpataba in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region, Mr Joshua Emuah Kofie, who is represented in court by Lawyer Frank Davies.

According to the applicant, the Member of Parliament was not eligible to contest the 2020 Parliamentary Elections on grounds dual citizenship.

The court on June 22, 2021, presided over by Justice Dr Richmond Osei Hwere, directed the MP to present her documents to exonerate herself within 10 days.

However, the MP failed to present the required documents to the court and has also been evading the court whenever the case is called.

Due to this behaviour of the MP, Lawyer for the applicant, Frank Davies yesterday prayed that the court issues a bench warrant to forcefully compel Dorcas Affo-Toffey to appear before court since she is undermining the authority of the court.

The court, presided by Her Ladyship, Sedinam Agbemava, agreed with the plea of Lawyer Frank Davies and has therefore issued a bench warrant to compel the MP for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo Toffey to appear before the court.
