Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has opined that the sacking of Coach C. K Akonnor is not the ultimate solution of the woes of the Ghana Black Stars.
According to the legislator, the current team simply lacks the quality in terms of players to compete at the international level with other countries.
He is of the view that, considering the current crop of players in the team, world class coaches such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, among others will woefully fail and won’t achieve anything with this team.
In a Facebook posted cited by ABC News, the MP indicated that “even if you appointed Ferguson or Wenger or Klopp or Mourinho, this team is going nowhere! The talent is either grossly deficient, aged or undeserving of wearing our national colours.”
“Can you point out one true star player in our team maybe with the exception of Partey and Schlupp?,” he quizzed.
Commenting on the Ghana Football Association’s decision to part ways with the former coach, Sam George indicated although C. K Akonnor failed in certain aspects of the game such as direction and philosophy of play, he is not a magician to excel considering the quality in the team.
“We simply lack quality! This ain’t no Black Stars, this is a Black Dot! I personally like CK Akonnor and really hoped he would excel but he is no magician and failed to show any clear direction as to what his philosophy was,” he added.
The Member of Parliament therefore reiterated the need for the current to be disbanded so that the GFA can focus on rebuilding the team from the juvenile level. He further called on government to stop spending the money on the current team until a solid team is formed to represent the country.
