In the wake of the controversy surrounding the cost of the Christmas decorations done by the Ghana Airport Company, Editor for the Informer Newspaper, Andy Kankam is calling for the head of the Board Chairman of the company, Paul Adom Otchere.

Andy Kankam is of the opinion the expenditure as clarified by Paul Adom Otchere amounts to misappropriation of public resources.

The editor cannot fathom why the board chairman presided over such an extravagant spending on mere decorations at a time the country’s finances are stressed by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM, he expressed his resentment that “a public agency is spending over GH₵100,000 on Christmas trees and that is not wise especially with the country suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He therefore charged President Akufo Addo and the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah to take particular interest in this expenditure and scrutinize it thoroughly. He added that the board chair must also be shown the exit adding that it is an insult to Ghanaians.

“The expenditure is an insult to the Ghanaian people and the Board Chair of GACL must be fired. The money spent is the taxpayer’s money and we need to fire him for spending that much. Will he have used such an amount on Christmas decorations for his family?.” Andy Kankam contended.

Meanwhile, the the Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company, and host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom Otchere, has described it as ridiculous, claims that the company bought four Christmas trees for GH¢84,000 for the festive season.
