REVEALED: How Bishop Bosomtwe Ayensu came to “hate” NDC with passion – Asiedu Nketia spills it all

It has now emerged that the former Presiding Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Very Rev. Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu has a personal vendetta against the NDC which dates back to the 90s.

According to the current General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the incident which caused the hatred of the NDC by the Man of God happened during regime of former President Jerry John Rawlings when the late Professor Evans Atta-Mills was the vice president.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Okay FM which was monitored by ABC News, Johnson Asiedu Nketia revealed that Bishop Ayensu was a police officer and chaplain in the service during the Rawlings-Mills administration.

He alleged that Bishop Ayensu wanted to be appointed the Chaplain General in the Police Service although he has a mental health issues in addition to being below his competitors in terms of rank. He [Bishop Ayensu] realizing his slim chances wanted to use to political power of Professor Mills, who was also a member of the Methodist Church.

However, Asiedu Nketia revealed that Prof. Mills refused to do the bidding of Bishop Ayensu on grounds that the Methodist Church they both attend does not condone such behavior adding that such appointment is the prerogative of the IGP.

It was because of this refusal by Prof. Mills, Asiedu Nketia disclosed that Bishop Ayensu out of anger resigned from the Police Service to focus on ministerial work in the Methodist Church.

According to the General Secretary, Bishop Ayensu has held this bitterness and vendetta against the NDC since this incident hence he is not surprised by the Bishop’s latest comment about Mr. Mahama since he was done worst in times past.

“This man Ayensu has his personal problems with NDC which is not a problem of the Methodist Church. His personal problem with the NDC is that during his days as a police officer, many people do not know that he was a policeman and a pastor in the service during the days of Former President Rawlings when Professor Mills was the vice president, he wanted to use Professor Mills, who was his [Bishop Ayensu] church to gain the position of Chaplain General; thus the head of all Chaplains in the Ghana Police Service,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia narrated.

“You know the vice president is the chairman of the Police council so he wanted to use him. But the vice president said that such appointment are made by IGP and not a politician, in addition, there are laws governing the appointment and the church we both attend has groomed us to abide by rules and regulations. Thus, we must do things methodically so go and use the proper methods,”

He continued that “the secret was that his [Bishop Ayensu] competitors were ahead of him in terms of ranks. Secondly, he had a medical record that meant that he had a mental challenge. I have evidence to that effect. You know every hospital keep it medical records for a period of 10 years before they are disposed. If not for that, you would have gotten it from the Police Hospital. It was based on that reason why the Police did not give him the appointment so he wanted to use Professor Mills’ political power but he [Prof. Mills] didn’t. It was because of this that out of anger her resigned from the Police Service but because he was a Methodist Minister, the church posted him as he continued seeking medical help.”
