Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Junior has called on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sanction its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi for attacking the character of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

He wants the party to, at least, openly chastise Wontumi for the widely criticized comments.

Mr Baako, describing the remarks as unfortunate and pollution, advised the party to also dissociate itself from it, as it has the potential of causing the party some collateral damage.

Chairman Wontumi, following the announcement of Prof Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate to former President Mahama, took to his radio station, Wontumi Radio to run her and the NDC down and in the process made certain comments considered derogatory by many.

The maverick politician in his submission said, among others, that the physical looks of Prof Opoku-Agyemang do not qualify her as a Vice President of the republic.

These remarks, the ace journalist believes should not be countenanced and has called on party officials, particularly leading ones, to publicly reprimand Chairman Wontumi.

“But let’s be honest, among all these three, Buaben Asamoa and Osei Kyei-Mensah, I’m prepared to defend them as a matter of principle relative to the allegations being made against them. The one by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Party is very unfortunate and that is what doesn’t help the NPP as a party because he is a regional chairman for goodness sake and of their stronghold.”

“So yes, take out Osei Kyei Mensah, take Yaw Buaben Asamoah and this is being fair; in his case, he’s provided the armour for us to come on the same level and say the party is attacking women,” Mr Baako said on JoyNews’ News File.

“The party must dissociate itself from Wontumi’s statement and indeed maybe issue a reprimand; some query publicly if they cannot sanction him properly then we can move on.”

“This has collateral damage or implications for the party when the party itself is clear in its mind that we are not going to attack the woman because she is a woman. We are focused on her track record, professionally and politically and deal with those issues which are the right thing to do and then you have a regional chairman distorting and polluting the environment with all those utterances and so you the party doesn’t really matter in this case?” he queried.
