Professor Joseph Atsu Aryee of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana has solicited more support for the Social Sciences while recounting the immense contributions researches in the field has made towards global development solving critical social issues.
He made this call when he delivered his speech on the theme “A Prognosis of the New frontiers and Prospects of the Social Sciences for Scholarly Excellence in Ghana,” at the 60th Anniversary Founders Week celebration of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Professor Aryee outlined inadequate research funds, the lack of a research foundation in Ghana, and the absence of structures for research training as key challenges crippling the prospects of social sciences for scholarly excellence in the country.
Professor Joseph Aryee again proffered that interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research works, the establishment of research training institutes, sustainable funding of researches and more diversified peer review mechanisms are preconditions for scholarly excellence.
