Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged Ghanaians to look beyond the personality of persons vying to lead the country as Presidents and focus on their ability to deliver on the mandate.

According to the Vice President, it takes more than ‘niceness’ to lead a country.

While addressing the governing New Patriotic Party’s supporters at a National Youth Rally in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, Dr. Bawumia intimated that although people describe former President John Dramani Mahama as a nice man, he is incapable of managing the economy of the country, ABC News can report.

The incompetent campaign against the former President dates back to his time in office when he was described by many, particularly members of the then opposition New Patriotic Party as being highly incompetent and ineffective.

While addressing a forum in London, March 2018, the former President had indicated that this incompetence campaign waged by the NPP had a toll on his government, leading to his exit after his first term in office.

Reiterating his stance on the capabilities of the former President, Dr. Bawumia stated that the former President will worsen the economy once given another term in the next general election.

“People say that John Mahama is a nice man. Oh yes, he may be a nice man but he is a nice man who if you give the economy, very soon, you cannot get teacher trainee allowance, nurses trainee allowance, pay your child’s school fees, get a job to do, agriculture will be declining, electricity prices will be going up. The presidency is not for nice men or women, the presidency is for doers, people who can make things happen” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia added, “the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been in office [for] just about three years even though there is still a lot to do, any objective assessment of our performance for the last three years will agree to recall the situation when the NDC was voted out of office in 2016, I would like us to recall this because some people say we have short memories, you remember that when Nana Addo was voted to the office, Under the NDC, work in Agriculture was decline, work in industry was negative, interest rate was very high”
