This is a topic for a long essay, but let me keep it short.
In the midst of Covid-19, the things that became most relevant to people around the world changed a whole lot.
1. For the first time in the history of America’s Got Talent (AGT), a poet participated. His name was BRANDON LEAKE, an African-American. He took advantage of the times to bring his powerful spoken word performance to the AGTs and it found instant RELEVANCE from the first performance to the last. Guess what, he won the $1million award.
2. In the midst of Covid-19, Citi FM did their maiden entertainment awards and guess who emerged the ultimate Entertainer of the Year – comedian AKWASI BOADI AKROBETO – the man who made our lockdown moments exciting with his pure breed ‘tomfoolery’. His fame even went abroad in the world of sports for the mere shattering of the names of big leagues footballers. AKROBETO competed against top guys like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and the likes. But the key here again was RELEVANCE in the midst of the times.
3. In the midst of Covid-19, gospel music diva (if you like), DIANA HAMILTON has emerged Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, most probably because her song, ‘ADOM’ and others were the most relevant to Ghanaians in the midst of the times, and not because others did not do well.
Remember, Brandon Leake had very tough competition. Go and watch the 15th edition of the AGT for year 2020 and see the breath-taking acts and you would understand.
Akrobeto was also up against the big dogs in the entertainment industry of Ghana. The names have been listed above. It could not get any bigger than that. Equally, Diana Hamilton was up against very tough competition – Adina, Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, Medikal and the supposed chosen one, KiDi. But again, relevance was at play. Ghanaians voted for the one whose works saw them through the Covid-19 in a more meaningful way. Otherwise, how could Brandon Leake win AGT with speech and AKROBETO win Entertainer of the Year with ‘tomfoolery’?
Now that was for those who have respect for only logic. For those who have a place for faith in your mind, the Bible says all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to His purpose. Maybe, if not for Covid-19, people may not have found Brandon Leake’s spoken word, Akrobeto’s jokes and Diana’s ‘Adom’ song as meaningful as they found them. But God, in His infinite wisdom, which often beats the fickle minds of carnal people, pieces the conditions together to make the works of some people very relevant to all, and so they emerge award winners.
This is one of those moments when both logic and faith have connived to deliver God’s will. If you are not a man of faith, get the logic and be happy. Anything outside of that, you are on your own.
Good day.
