The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to deploy officials to Senior High Schools across the country, to capture eligible voters onto the new electoral roll.
This exercise is scheduled from July 10, 2020 to July 11, 2020.
The decision was communicated to the various political parties after an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Thursday, July 9,2020.
According to the EC, the registration exercise will be conducted in schools that do not have polling stations within their premises.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs at the commission, Sylvia Annoh, “the Commission will ensure that all COVID-19 safety protocols are strictly adhered to.”
However, some political parties are opposed to the move. The largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has even described the EC’s move as “illegal.”
