Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the NDC’s formation of a COVID-19 Response Team is a deliberate attempt to undermine the government’s effort.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has opined that the formation of the NDC’s team was politically motivated by the party to take undue advantage of the coronavirus pandemic ahead of the 2020 General Elections.

Justifying his position on TV3’s current affairs show, ‘The Key Points’ on Saturday, May 23, 2020, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi in the Eastern Region said he couldn’t understand why an opposition political party will form a parallel team aside that of government, a situation he observed happened only in Ghana and nowhere else.

He recalled that the team, including the flagbearer of the NDC, have been involved in throwing jabs and criticising every move by the government including the figures churned out by health experts.

He, therefore, called on Ghanaians not to be fooled into believing that the NDC’s COVID-19 team is interested in the national cause and not pursuing a political agenda.

“It is now becoming clear that it was just a political exercise. Because it was an exercise to give them the platform to be taking hotshots at the state’s efforts and to be regularly attempting to undermine or critique or question what the state was doing even including the data that the scientists are putting out,” Oppong Nkrumah argued.

“So let’s not be fooled anywhere, it was an attempt to politicize the matter, it drew out political responses from our side. The vice president was justified in coming out with a strong checkmate,” the minister indicated.
