Some members of the national executive body of the National Democratic Congress are set to arrive at the CID Headquarters in Accra following the arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, ABC News can report.

Sammy Gyamfi was allegedly arrested on Monday morning at United Television (U TV) where he was contributing as a studio panelist on their morning show “Adekye Nsroma“.

It is reported that the National Communications Officer was picked up and whisked away by plain-clothed police officers without allowing him to communicate with anybody.

Speaking in an interview with ABC News, Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otukonor, said the NDC is yet to find out why Mr. Gyamfi has been picked up and suggested that officials of the party were making their way to the CID office over the developing story.

He described the incident as an attack on democracy.

”This is an attack on democracy and any well-meaning Ghanaian who is a lover of democracy should be treating this action with contempt and be calling out the President and the government for this kind of intimidation of opposition members. We are heading to the CID head office and any lover of democracy should meet us at the CID head office. We are yet to ascertain the reason and that is why we are massing up at the CID head office,” he said.
