The Family of the murdered Takoradi Constituency treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mark Ofori has asserted that they suspect the murder of their relative to be one of a contract killing, ABC News can report.
According to them, the circumstances under which the politician was shot and killed by the unknown assailant gives them reason to suspect that the murderer was hired to kill the deceased.
Mark Ofori, a father of three, was attacked and shot dead by some unknown assailants in his house at Fijai in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region around 1:00 a.m Wednesday.
But, speaking to journalists at the crime scene Thursday, a brother of the deceased, Sam Eli said preliminary investigations conducted into the incident confirms their suspicion that the assailant was contracted.
According to him, a decision by the assailant to murder his brother and not expressing interest in his belongings was enough grounds to conclude that the murderer was not an armed robber but was on a schemed mission.
Subsequently, the family, Eli said, has placed a GH₵ 50,000 bounty on the head of the assailant to be given to anyone who will volunteer “credible” information that will lead to the arrest of the assailant.
The mover, he said, is to complement the efforts of the police in uncovering the killers of the NPP treasurer.
“You came to the house you didn’t take anything and you just kill the person and left. So is this an armed robber or a thief? No, because it is my younger brother that they want. It is contract killing. My ground checks and investigations show that because of the security man that they killed was called Ofori, they thought it was him. After they found that it was not him, they proceeded to kill by brother, “ he said.
“What we are saying is that we have placed GH₵ 50,000 on board for whoever has any credible information that will lead to the arrest of the person who killed my brother,” he added.
Eli gave the strongest indication that the family will go every extent to unmask the killers of his brother and expressed confidence that the perpetrators will be brought to book to face prosecution.
Reports suggest that the assailants first raged the house of the in-law of the Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah and shot and killed the security guard there before proceeding to the house Mr Ofori to terminate his life.
The remains of the deceased has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Takoradi while the his brother, who reportedly sustained injuries during the incident is responding to treatment at the same hospital.
