Minority Leader endorses Mahama’s 2024 bid

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has endorsed former President John Mahama’s 2024 bid.

According to him, the 2020 NDC flagbearer is the preferred candidate to lead the party to victory in the next elections.

The former President polled 6,213,182 of the valid votes against incumbent President Akufo-Addo’s 6,730,587 in the 2020 polls.

Not satisfied and complaining of vote irregularities, Mr Mahama sought solace in the Supreme Court which also after months of legal gymnastics, affirmed President Akufo-Addo as the winner of the elections, giving him a second term mandate.

That good showing at the polls, which also saw the NDC snatching more than 30 seats from the governing party, has led to renewed calls for the party to maintain Mr Mahama as he’s the only marketable candidate, the party has.

Mr Mahama has since rallied the party to be extra vigilant during the next election describing it as “do-or-die.”

I won’t retract ‘do or die’ comment, it’s an idiomatic expression – Mahama insists

Adding his voice to that development, the Tamale South MP urged party supporters to be extremely vigilant at all polling stations across the country to ensure the party is not robbed of their victory.

“The NDC will call for greater transparency, especially at the collation of the results. Zero-tolerance for 2024 will be our declaration, and we will police the ballot.”

In an interview on Accra-based Citi TV and monitored by ABC News, Mr Iddrisu said he wished former President Mahama will continue to lead the party during the next general elections.

“I always say that for persons who love President Mahama and want his return just as I want, go to your polling station and make sure he wins. Nothing more. If he wins at the 33,000 polling stations, he will be the next President of the Republic.

“It is not about running to take photographs with him thinking that is how you are contributing to the success of the NDC; I don’t think going to take pictures with him means he has won. I think we should go back to our roots as NDC with ‘Operation win your ballot box’,” Mr Iddrisu said.
