Ghanaian Football Star, Michael Essien has lost close to a million followers on Twitter after he made a post declaring his support for homosexuals in Ghana.

In the post, Essien wrote “Ghana Supports Equality” in the Ghana flag colors, then added “We see you, we hear you, we support you, Our LGBTQIA plus Community in Ghana.”

The comment sparked a plethora of comments from his followers stating their disgust for his position.

The ensuing consequence was a huge number of those followers unfollowing him, leading to his over 1.7 million followership reducing to just a little over 700,000 in just hours.

Indeed, a few followers also supported him for taking that position, but the backlash was too overwhelming for Michael Essien to maintain that open stance.

Due to the huge backlash, he has deleted the post, but that has not yet made the lost followers return to his page.
