Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Ayawaso West Wuogon have accused Member of Parliament for the area, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of busing people from other regions to register in her constituency.

The NDC is alleging that the incumbent MP is planning to better her chances in the December 7 parliamentary elections by importing voters from other areas.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday, at the Accra Girls Vocational Vocational Institute Registration Center, Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey claimed the MP has made arrangements for people in Ayawaso North, La Dadekopon, Ada and even Nsawam in the Eastern Region to come and register in her constituency to give her an edge over her major contender, John Dumelo.

He described the development as an affront to the right of the people to choose their parliamentary representative.

“What Lydia Alhassan is doing which is inimical to the process is that she is importing people from other constituencies, Ayawaso North, Ayawaso East,  La Dadekotopon, Kwabenya, all the adjoining constituencies of Ayawaso West Wuogon. She’s also bringing people from Ada, from Somanya, from Atiavi, from the Eastern Region, as far as Nsawam. This morning we had a hint that there were two buses coming from Nsawam, being NPP people they are bringing to come and register. We intercepted the car,” he stated.

Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey said what the MP is doing is wrong because “Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency is the most elite community in Ghana. So she must allow the the grown ups, people who have businesses in the area to determine who should be their MP.

According to him, importing young people from outside the constituency to elect an MP for them is not only illegal, but also an insult to the integrity and the will of residents of the  constituency.

ABC News made efforts to reach the MP for her comments but to no avail.
