Real Madrid is two points above Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table after securing a victory against Espanyol.

The win came after Brazilian international Casemiro capitalised on Karim Benzema’s backheel assist to open the deadlock.

The goal was the only one scored in the match.

Espanyol had several chances with Thibaut Courtois making five saves.

Espanyol has had difficulties in finding their rhythm this season, parting ways with three managers, Abelardo Fernandez last to be sacked.

Real Madrid is now only six wins or five wins and a draw away from lifting the La Liga title.

Madrid top the table with 71 points above Barcelona, who have 69 points.
