Former Greater-Accra Regional Chairman of NDC, Joseph Ade Coker has slammed a leading party member, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour his recent comments about the failure of the party to present its own collated figures in court during the 2020 election petition hearing.
After the just-ended election petition, matters regarding NDC’s total votes garnered came up, particularly concerns by the rank and file of the party as to why the petitioner failed to present collated figures in court.
Dr. Benjamin Kumbour recently commented that even the party’s Council of Elders do not have access to the said figures.
“Immediately after the elections, results were coming, we started seeing figures. For the ordinary party member, you said we had won the elections through the figures and collation that the party had done, why is it that those figures did not find their way to the court,” jhe quizzed.
He further stated that political accountability is vertical and horizontal and so it behooves on the NDC to have provided the figures they claimed existed, saying that “people don’t know today what exactly are the [NDC’s] collated figures.”
For the former NDC Regional Chair, such comments could only come from “anonymous serial callers and not an elderly person like Kumbour.”
“Have you seen the NPP coming out to announce to the whole world the numbers they made? No, we have a system. People must respect party structures…People who have had the privilege of being ministers of state, contesting elections will go to the public and behave this way. They have had the privilege of serving in high positions so they should know better,” he quipped.
He insisted that Dr. Kumbuor cannot behave like a “serial caller” over the matter, because he knows what to do.
“We have the collated results. I’m surprised why Dr Kumbuor being a member of the Council of Elders hasn’t availed himself or asked the Executives to render account to the Council of Elders. If the Council of Elders is that interested in the figures, they would have asked,” he said.
Ade Cokers said Dr. Kumbuor is not that big to sit back and expect someone to bring him information when he could have used the right channels to request for it like any other party member is expected to do.
“He is just like anybody in the party. Look don’t let us assign titles to everybody. Everybody in the NDC whether you are a foot soldier, we are all the same people. So one person cannot make the party. So we should always think about the collective and not about our individual self, ” he said.
He also accused other Council of Elders members like Dan Abodapki of failing to request for the figures from the party executive, but they are out there running commentary on it.
