The accountant at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital who was dismissed following allegations of misuse of COVID-19 funds has sued management of the hospital for wrongful dismissal.

The Accounts Officer, Awuni Akyireba, is praying the court to quash the hospital’s decision to dismiss him.

The case will be heard on January 28, 2022.

Mr. Akyireba petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), over alleged misapplication of funds by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and a Medical Director – funds meant to augment the fight against COVID-19.

Management of the hospital subsequently denied the allegations and dismissed Mr. Akyireba on grounds that he breached its code of conduct.

The Hospital’s Board said his conduct is “reprehensible and unacceptable”.

CHRAJ has since probed the matter and its yet to make public its findings.
