Black Stars of Ghana today joined the Green Ghana Campaign as the entire team planted trees in Cape Coast.

The team together with the Forestry Commission and the University of Cape Coast planted the trees as the campaign started on Friday, June 11.

The Stars are currently preparing for the second friendly game against Ivory Coast.

Ghana will host the Elephants at the Coast Stadium on Saturday. The game has been scheduled to kick off at 17:00GMT.

The Black Stars are hoping to make amends after losing Morocco in their first friendly on Tuesday in Rabat by a lone goal.

The friendlies form part of Ghana’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for September this year.

Thomas Partey and Tariqe Fosu who missed the game against Morocco have all joined the team ahead of the game.

The country is targeting planting 5 million trees into the forestry sector.

  • What is Green Ghana Campaign?

Earlier in June 2021, President Akufo-Addo called on Ghanaians to plant more trees to preserve the country’s forest cover and the environment.

The President stressed that “We cannot sit by and watch as our trees, flora and fauna are wiped out. Our very existence is tied directly to the survival of trees. Without the oxygen produced by trees, we cannot survive as humans.

“Lend your support to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as it executes this ambitious national assignment. I will be planting a tree and I expect you too to plant one. Let us make Ghana green.
