Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has joined others on social media to criticize self-styled Counselor George Lutterodt for saying that some rape victims enjoy the act even though it was without consent.
Mr. Lutterodt made the heavily and widely criticized comment on Adom TV.
His comment has since attracted huge public criticisms on social media, to the extent that a group has initiated a petition collecting signatories to have him banned from radio and TV appearances.
Indeed, Gender Minister Cythia Morrison has described the comment as insane and called for a ban on George Lutterodt from media platforms.
Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, joining the conversation on social media, said that “rape and violence against women is not something we should joke or toy with”.
He further stressed the need to women to be protected, saying ” we need to develop a more robust environment for protecting our wives, daughters, sisters and mothers.”
Meanwhile actress, Ama K Abebrese, has described Mr. Lutterodt’s comments as “highly irresponsible and very dangerous rhetoric that fuels sexual violence and rape culture.”
She quizzed; “Well, Lutterodt, tell me how much a 6-year-old girl enjoys the act of being raped? Or how a 9-year-old boy enjoys being sexually assaulted? Or how a 21-year-old enjoys being held down against her will and raped by a group of guys? Or how a 70-year-old woman enjoys being raped?”
She concluded by admonishing media houses to stop giving people like Lutterodt airtime to say things they have no clue about.
