President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu II that his government will soon embark on a course to improve road network in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, ABC News can report.
The President said he was aware that one of the major concerns of the people of Kumasi was the city’s deplorable road network which requires urgent attention.
He said the government shared in the concerns of the people, assuring that they will soon witness an improvement in their roads.
“I know that one of the major challenges of the people of Kumasi are your roads. I do not want to talk much about it but what i can tell you is that you should relax. You will see my handiwork soon,” the President said.
President Akufo-Addo gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace today as part of his three-day tour of the Ashanti Region.
The visit, the President explained, was for him to seek the blessings of the Asantehene to ensure a successful tour of the Region.
He said that his visit to the Region was in line with his commitment to to deepen grassroots participation in his government and to also obtain first-hand information from the people.
“My decision to come to grounds is to obtain first hand information on how things are faring to inform the government’s plans and policies,” he said.
The President added that “when I arrive in this [Ashanti] Region, my first point of call is to come and present myself to you and seek your blessings and pave way for me to commence my tour.”
For his part his part, Otumfuo Osei Tutu welcomed the President and thanked him for calling on him as part of his visit to the Region.
He commended the President’s decision to tour all the regions in the country, describing the move as a laudable idea.
“Your decision to move from Jubilee House to visit the ground is a laudable idea and the right thing to do,” he said, adding that “we have had a lot of discussions in private and you have given me your word that you’ll work on them. We pray for God’s blessings on you so that all your plans to be successful.”
Earlier, the President inspected work on some selected roads in the Ashanti Region together with Mr Kwesi Amoako Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways.
Among the roads inspected by the President Wednesday morning were the New Onwe Road,
Ejisu Roundabout and the Oforikrom-Anloga Junction Road, all of which are at various stages of completion.
The President is expected to end his tour of the Ashanti Region on Friday, October 11, 2019 after which he will pay a working visit to the Eastern Region.
