Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo has apologized for peddling falsehood about a Deputy Agriculture Minister.

The post was an attempt to blame government for neglecting the road network in the country despite declaring 2020 as the ‘year of roads’.

The legislator in a tweet shared an image of the supposed Deputy Agriculture Minister whose V8 vehicle got stuck on an abandoned cocoa road project in the Western Region.

He said “NPP Deputy Minister of Agric got his V8 stuck on an abandoned cocoa road project in the Western Region. See how one community member reacted ‘We hooted at him because his government has abandoned the road for three good years now’! – Opayin Atta Mensah, Cocoa farmer.”

However, his tweet turned out to be false as the image in question was that of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2014.

According to the Saturday Vision that reported the incident on its Facebook page “President Joseph Kabila’s car got stuck in mud in Rushuru, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. He drove himself most of the journey during his recent tour of the region. His car got stuck in the mud several times on the way and the presidential guards had to get out and push it”.

Rashid Pelpuo’s tweet incurred the wrath of Ghanaians on social media as they chastised him for propagating false news in an attempt to tarnish the image of the Deputy Agriculture Minister and works of the Akufo-Addo-led government.

While others called on Rashid Pelpuo to name the said Deputy Agriculture Minister, others also hurled insults at him.

Expressing disappointment in the legislator’s conduct, social media users further charged him to apologise to government.

After hours of backlash, Rashid Pelpuo deleted the post on his Twitter handle.

However, the Wa Central legislator Wednesday morning rendered an unqualified apology.

According to him, his social media account is managed by someone and only got to know of the person’s actions after the backlash.

He said, “Trust me I won’t give my Twitter to another to manage after your barrage of criticisms. Sorry”.
