Former Member of Parliament for Kunbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak has registered his displeasure with the ongoing sim card re-registration exercise.
According to the former NDC Member of Parliament, the reasons given by the authorities for the exercise is not convincing enough. Ras Mubarak is the view that the authorities have not been able to justify the reasons for exercise and have also failed to demonstrate how the re-registration curb momo fraud, sim box fraud and other issues.
The former MP is of the opinion that sim card registration has been a recurring trend in the country due to the “incompetence” of those in the helm of affairs hence he is not convinced that this exercise will be the last as propagated.
Speaking in interview on Accra-based Okay FM, Ras Mubarak further indicated that the process is very cumbersome and not friendly to the sim subscribers. He cannot fathom why employees should abandon their work for considerable period of time just to re-register their sim.
In view of these reasons, the former MP has indicated that he has made up his mind that he will not re-register him sim because he does not have the luxury of time to go through the cumbersome processes.
However, he added that he will organize a boycott campaign against his service provider should they block his number.
“I have used my MTN phone number for nearly 24years. I would not Re-register my SIM card. The process is cumbersome, the argument for Re-registration is not compelling. If my network provider blocks my number, not only will I be happy to use the good old landline, I’ll organize a boycott campaign against the service provider,” Ras Mubarak indicated.
He added that, “the service providers have much to lose if citizens take charge of how they want to be treated. Who needs a mobile number anyway when there are too many options.
