Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed surprise in how much the Akufo-Addo led administration has achieved in less than four years of governance.

According to Mr Kufuor, he, like many Ghanaians, was worried about the number of promises the NPP party made during the campaign period in the run up to the 2016 general elections. He says though that the Akufo-Addo-led administration has delivered beyond expectations, the reason for which it deserves a second term in office.

The promises of the ruling government and fulfilment thereof have however generated some level of contention among Ghanaians, especially between members of the two major political parties, NPP and NDC.

While the NPP claims to have fulfilled at least 78% of its promises to Ghanaians in 2016, the NDC has given the government a scorecard of 14%.

Subtly wading into that debate, the former President said the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government have displayed vision and strategy in fulfilling their promises in a way that makes him happy.

He therefore urged the current leadership of the party to lead the NPP into sustained victory since the NPP is destined to lead in the transformation of the country.

“The hallmark of our President and his vice truly is beautifully articulated leadership. They articulate the vision of our tradition so ably and so down to earth in a way that the grassroot appreciates as well as the high…it’s very difficult for political leadership to combine such vision and articulation as the two of them do andit I, believe just within a period of three and half years, they’ve shown this vision, they’ve displayed strategy.

“Initially even some of us thought they were promising too much for a four year term of office but within three and half years see what they have already achieved. Our party is destined to lead in the transformation of the country.

“Go to the statistical department, check the figures, you’d be surprised at the achievements being done and this is why I am so happy to be here. It’s not easy for oldmen to see their children rise and prosper the way this party is already displaying and I pray that the good Lord will of bless our current leadership to lead us into victory and the victory should be sustained,” he said after the NPP endorsed President Akufo-Addo as the party’s Presidential candidate for the December elections.
