Following what has been described as a gaffe on the part of GH One’s presenter, Serwaa Amihere during an interview session with the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the minister has clarified that he never set out to embarrass the presenter.
According to Mr Oppong Nkrumah, he only sought to clarify the question posed to him by the presenter.
Speaking in an interview monitored by ABC News on Monday, he also took the opportunity to admonish journalists to be on top of their game and research well before conducting interviews.
Taking pains to explain what transpired and the subsequent reactions, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP expressed optimism that Serwaa Amihere will chalk more successes in the future should she continue on the tangent she is on.
“When I saw the reaction, my mind went back to my interview that I did with Wereko-Brobbey when I started hosting the morning show. When I finished that show, I was actually crying. I even said I was going to quit because I didn’t say I was going to be a journalist,” he recollected.
He added that “I think a lot of journalists don’t think their questions can be questioned. Its legitimate for your question to be questioned. There is nothing wrong with it because it’s a conversation. I think from Serwaa’s commitment to the job and how she seeks to do the job, this is something that time and history will not remember.”
“I didn’t intend to be a difficult guest. I needed clarification but I think it did not come out well. History and time will deal with this. She will do well as the years go by,” he indicated.
