Health authorities in Ghana will begin the administration of the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccines today.
The exercise, expected to end on Saturday, September 4, 2021, is eligible for persons in all 16 regions who took their first shot between March 10th and 29th this year.
Those expected to be given the jabs have been advised to bring along a valid national ID card and their COVID-19 Vaccination Card for the exercise.
Giving details of the administration of the second dose, Head of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Dr Kwame Amponsa-Achiano said priority would be given to frontline health workers in regions outside the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions.
“We have about 400,000 people awaiting their second dose and because we received 249,000 we are doing equitable distribution across the regions and reserving some specifically for health workers who are at most risk,” he explained.
For those unable not covered during this second phase, Dr Amponsa-Achiano assures they will receive their second jabs by mid-September.
