Senior Vice-President of IMANI- Africa, Kofi Bentil has condemned Politicians and other prominent persons in society for coveting GETFund educational scholarships meant for brilliant but needy students.
According to the lawyer, the act of ‘stealing’ from the poor is one God will not forgive.
A performance audit report of the Auditor-General on the administration of scholarships by GETFund revealed that Education Minister Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Procurement Minister and Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo as well as the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Prince Hamidu Armah have all benefitted from the scheme. Also,
Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh and the Executive Secretary for NACCA, Dr. Prince Armah have denied receiving GETFund scholarships while serving as government appointees. In separate releases, the two maintain that the award of the scholarships was at a time when they were not in government.
Also, a member of the Manifesto team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor John Gatsi as well as several high profile personalities or their relations are said to have benefited from the scheme in the past seven(7) years as revealed by the audit.
