Three fuel tankers awaiting discharge near a fuel station at Apremdo in the Western region on Wednesday afternoon, exploded leading to a massive inferno which claimed the life of a two-year-old boy.

The diesel trucks were said to have been parked behind the filling station at the suburb of Takoradi awaiting an order to discharge when the incident occurred.

The raging inferno destroyed over seven container stores leading to the death of the boy who was sleeping in one of the containers.

It took firefighters close to an hour before dousing the flame.

Speaking to journalists at the scene of the disaster, the Western Regional Fire Command PRO, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney, said: “the boy who was burnt into ashes was sleeping in one of the mobile money sales containers when the fire broke out.”
