The driver of the Member of Parliament for Suhum in the Eastern Region has allegedly been arrested over his involvement in a bloody clash over the weekend.
The suspect, Kofi Agyei a.k.a Jamalo voluntarily turned himself to the police on Wednesday afternoon after intense pressure on him to do so.
He was immediately whisked to the Regional Police Headquarters at Koforidua, where he was ordered to write his caution statement and detained in Police custody pending the outcome of investigations.
According to media reports, Jamalo said to be the driver of the MP, is alleged to have inflicted cutlass wounds on a party communicator of the NPP after a misunderstanding ensued at a funeral.
The melee resulted in the injury of another party member, who was later treated and discharged at the Suhum Government Hospital.
The victim is said to have sustained deep knife wounds on the forehead with another victim also suffering bruises on the lips.
In an earlier statement, the MP for the area, Kwadjo Asante sought to distance himself from the reportage which also claimed that the cutlass used in the attack was taken from his car.
“I wish to state categorically that my personal driver was not involved in the case, neither was there any cutlass nor implement picked from my car as has been alleged in the media,” he said in a statement.
