Surveyors in the country have developed an app to detect and trace all positive cases of the deadly COVID-19 disease.

According to the President of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS), Dr. John Kwaku Amaglo, the software will boost government’s COVID-19 response team’s effort in carrying out effective contact tracing as well as monitoring and evaluation of all case-patients.

The software to be installed on all smartphones comes at a time some contact-tracers are on the field keeping track of potential cases of the viral outbreak which has claimed five lives out of 287 cases in the country.

The President of the institution, Surveyor Dr. John Kwaku Amaglo made this known during the presentation of a cheque donation of fifty thousand Ghana Cedis GHc 50,000.00 to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

According to Dr. Amaglo, the Institute of Surveyors has already made contact with the COVID-19 response team and will be making a presentation on the software to the team on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. The presentation, he says, will consider the three basic functions of the application (App) which are tracing affected people in real-time, monitoring, and evaluation of all data gathered.

“This is the domain of surveyors. We have come up with an application that will be used for contact tracing and it has three functions. It will trace the affected people in real-time. It will be used for monitoring and it will be used for evaluation. We have booked an appointment with the technical team so that tomorrow we will do a presentation and if it is adopted we should be ahead of the virus.”

On her part, Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, expressed confidence that the engagement with the COVID-19 technical team will be fruitful.
