President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has hinted of further easing the restrictions imposed on social gatherings among others amidst concerns of Coronavirus should the number of deaths and critical cases continue to be  low.

The President, addressing a delegation from the Anglo traditional Council on Wednesday, expressed confidence that Ghana will be able to contain the virus and get ahead of it.

He encouraged self-discipline and strict adherence to the covid-19 protocols such as hand washing, social distancing in order to defeat the virus. He was confident that Ghana will be able to get ahead of the virus.

”I am very confident that we will overcome it. Fortunately for us, the number of people who have died in Ghana is very very small. It’s unfortunate each death is unfortunate but never the less, the numbers in Ghana are small and the numbers of people who have been hospitalized as a result of the COVID-19 and are in severe conditions are also small at the moment,” President Akufo-Addo said.

He added that ”We pray to God that it continues that way. Because if it continues that way, then it gives us the opportunity to look at how we can ease the many restrictions that is making life for all of us difficult. So that we can go back to more or less normal. It may be a different normal. We may have to be wearing the mask for some time but at least we can be free of some of the other restrictions.”

Ghana has so far recorded a total of 6,269 positive cases of Coronavirus. Out of the number, some 1,898 persons have recovered from the disease, after an additional 125 patients tested negative for the second time.

According to an update on the Ghana Health Service’s website, the country’s death toll remains 31 with the Greater Accra region still leading the pack with 4,582 cases.
