Information reaching ABC News indicates that at least nine suspects at the Ashaiman police cells have been confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus.

The nine were part of some 54 persons including police officers and other inmates at the station whose samples were collected for testing a fortnight ago.

They have since been taken to an isolation centre for treatment.

The number of infected persons at the police station is likely to increase in the coming days as some results of samples are yet to come.
