Following President Akufo-Addo’s announcement of interventions put in place by his government to support Ghanaians during the pandemic and lockdown period, there have been wild jubilations by a section of the populace on social media expressing their excitement upon hearing the news.

Not only are they hailing the President for taking such a bold initiative but are also trolling former President Mahama with videos and memes advising him to rescind his decision to contest the December 2020 elections.

President Akufo-Addo during his fifth address to the nation announced relief packages in a bid to curb the impact of the virus on the social and economic life of the ordinary Ghanaian. Among such interventions is the absorption of water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months, roll out of a soft loan scheme up to a total of GHC600m which will have a one-year moratorium and a two year repayment period for micro, small and medium-scale businesses, a tax holiday for frontline health workers for the next three months and an additional allowance of 50 percent of their basic salary per month for April, May, and June among many others.

The announcement by the President caused a stir on social media making the former president trend for the wrong reasons.

Taking to social media to express their joy, some Ghanaians said the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama has no chance of competing with President Akufo-Addo since they’re not in the same league anymore.

According to them, the only seat ex-president Mahama can win, is if he stands for the position of an Assemblyman or class rep at any tertiary institution.

Others also told the NDC flagbearer to use his house as a treatment and isolation centre for COVID-19 patients and that will be a sure bet for him to win the 2020 elections.

While some were of the view that he stands a chance against President Akufo-Addo if he buys a Benz car for each Ghanaian, others said he needs to see Okomfo Anokye to fight death and bring Ghanaians the key of life or better still, produce the cure for coronavirus so he wins the heart of the country.

Even with all these attacks on the former president on social media, Mahama a few minutes ago posted on his Twitter handle commenting on the PPEs he bought for hospitals in the country.

However, Ghanaians were still not moved and impressed with his actions as they continued to troll the former president under his own post.
