President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has charged Muslims across the country to celebrate the Eid-ul-Adha devoid of any incident.
In a twitter message to wish Muslims a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the president asked that the celebration be done in moderation to protect the peace of the country.
“We have the right to make merry and celebrate. But let us celebrate and make merry in moderation. I pray for a trouble-free and incident-free Eid celebration,” the president stated.
President Akufo-Addo also urged Muslims to reflect on the purpose of the celebration which is to remember the sacrifices of Ibrahim in obedience to God’s command.
Eid-ul-Adha which is the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ is celebrated the world over by Muslims to remember the significance of sacrifice and also replicate same.
To mark this celebration, an animal is sacrificed, divided into three parts with one part given to the poor and needy, another shared among relatives and the rest kept for consumption.
This year’s celebration falls on today, Sunday August 11 and is marked by Muslims across the world, including those here in Ghana.
