National Communications Officer for the opposition NDC, Sammy Gyamfi has pleaded for leniency for the respected men of God who have been caught up in the midst of the National Cathedral brouhaha.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, it is very unfortunate that President Akufo-Addo and his government dragged these revered clergy into the construction of the controversial National Cathedral.

Speaking in interview with Accra-based Peace FM, the National Officer of the NDC confessed his respect and reverence for the likes of Archbishop Duncan Williams, Apostle Onyinah, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills and others who have been named as members of the board of trustees for the Cathedral.

Although a section of the public has expressed their rage with the construction of the monument considering the current economic situation in the country, Sammy Gyamfi is appealing that Ghanaians exercise restraint in their utterances on these men of God who have been roped into the controversy of the cathedral.

“I’m a staunch Christian and growing up we had men of God we really cherished and adored like Archbishop Duncan Williams, Apostle Onyinah, Agyin Asare, Dag Heward-Mills; they’re our heroes and they’re revered worldwide…I’m pained that Akufo-Addo wants to tarnish their image by dragging them into this whole mess,” the NDC man explained.

He therefore called on all Christians to ensure that government does not use this cathedral to taint the image of these noble men of God in the country.

He further continued that, “Please don’t tarnish their image… leave them out of your chaos…it looks like govt wants to use this national cathedral as a ruse to steal. Christians must not allow govt to smear these men of God otherwise it’ll be a dent on Christianity,”
