CAF Confederation Cup: Hearts of Oak eliminated after humiliating defeat to JS Saoura

Ghana Premier League champions, Hearts of Oak have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 4-0 to Algeria’s JS Saoura in the final play-offs on Sunday.

Saoura produced an amazing comeback to beat the Phobians and reach the group stage winning 4-2 on aggregate.

After losing the first leg 2-0 in Accra last weekend, JS Saoura responded in style and took the lead after 21 minutes through Abdeldjalil Saad.

Oussama Bellatreche doubled the hosts’ lead and cancelled Hearts of Oak’s first-leg win.

Bellatreche completed his brace three minutes after the break to give Saoura an aggregate lead, before Hamro Aziz put the game to bed two minutes from time.

Hearts were demoted to the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 7-2 on aggregate to Wydad Athletic Club in the final qualification round of the CAF Champions League.

Samuel Boadu’s side will now turn their focus on the Ghana Premier League after a poor start to the campaign, having drawn three and lost one in their first four games this term.

Hearts are currently bottom of the league table with three points, 10 points behind leaders, and arch-rivals Asante Kotoko with two outstanding games.
