Brazil’s daily death toll on Monday, May 25, surpassed that of the United States of America for the first time.
Brazil recorded 807 deaths over the last 24 hours whereas 620 died in the United States were recorded.
So far, 23,473 people have died of the virus in Brazil whilst the US death toll has reached 97,971.
Brazil, which has the largest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Latin America, is the world’s second worst-hit country after the US in terms of the number of cases.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Brazil is 374,898 with the US having over 1.6 million cases.
According to the US’ Johns Hopkins University, the pandemic has killed more than 346,200 worldwide, with nearly 5.6 million confirmed cases, while recoveries have reached nearly 2.23 million.
